The University of Michigan Offers Its Own Blogging

The University of Michigan has started offering its own blogging space to faculty, students, staff - and even some guest accounts. http://mblog.lib.umich.edu/

If your school is thinking about instituting such a service, it would be a good idea to look at their Proper Use Policy and Guidelines for Responsible Use and some of the other policies they have posted.

Other useful information to consider:

Ownership and Copyright - their disclaimer - "copyright and all related rights to original work posted via mBlog are the sole responsibility of the its author(s). The contents of blog pages have not been reviewed or approved by the University of Michigan. Users of the mBlog service will comply with U.S. Copyright Law and University of Michigan policies.

Controlling Comments - there are methods to monitor postings and procedures to report inappropriate use of the blog service.

Users of the mBlog service who do not comply with these guidelines may be asked to remove objectionable blog content. In the event the blog author is not reachable or available to remove objectionable content, content may be removed by the University.

By default, the blogs created using the mBlog service are publicly available and available for search engines to crawl.

And, of course...The University reserves the right to change, at any time, at our sole discretion, the provisions of the mBlog service.
